Kerrang! Complete Analysis.
The front cover of ‘Kerrang Legends’ has one main picture of the featured band and three smaller pictures of other bands also featured within the magazine. The title of the magazine follows a common theme following the same font as printed on newer editions of Kerrang magazines. The front cover also includes four colours excluding the colours in the pictures. These colours are very bold and stand out in front of the pictures, this makes it eye catching. The pictures, font, colour and headline I think will appeal to its target audience because the pictures are of bands the target audience will appeal to and appreciate, which makes sense.
The contents page of this ‘Kerrang Legends’ goes across two pages and has a total of 9 pictures/photos, all these photos are related to the bands featured in the magazine. There are very limited numbers of colours on the contents page of the magazine and the main colours used are black which is used in the writing. And the other colour used is red which is used for the numbering of the articles and the pages they are on. Also on the contents page there is a column with the names of the editors, photographers, contributors etc. but there is no editorial. The edition I have analysed is a special edition and this why there is no editorial as in all Kerrang magazine there usually is. This contents page, I feel appeals to its target audience because of the amounts and content of the pictures. Also the simple colours of black and red are associated with the genres of music this magazine covers, as well as this, the fonts from the front cover are followed onto the contents page.
The first featured articles in analysised was a Kerrang! articles which written about the band Linkin Park. On the pages that Linkin Park are featured has the same background throughout although the picture page that contains a title and picture which covers two pages, has a little introduction piece to the band. The articles over the pages includes 7 pages and quotes from the article dotted on the pages but in larger font, this may be because it attracts readers to the page. Also the background to this article is like a metal material which in a way reflects the bands genre of music, I check other featured articles and this seemed to be a theme in the Kerrang! magazine, but usually it may have been a colour or an effect such as flames.
This Kerrang! featured few adverts and the adverts that are in the magazine can be associated with the target audience of the magazine, these adverts included HMV, Snickers, Empire magazine and various gigs and tours that the target audience may be likely to go to. All the adverts in the Kerrang! magazine would appeal to the target audience because readers of the magazine are likely to be in to music and buying music which is why HMV is an appropriate advert as well as Snickers and Empire.
